Dog-Friendly Cabin Getaway in Florida: Mochi’s Family Adventure

Looking for the ultimate dog-friendly cabin stay in Florida? Follow along as Mochi the Aussie takes us on a tail-wagging family adventure to Postcard Cabins Gilchrist Springs—complete with cozy cabin vibes, clear kayaking, and plenty of off-the-leash fun (well, almost).

POV: I’m Mochi and I just had the best family adventure ever.

I knew something was up when Mom started packing snacks and Dad grabbed our leashes — that only means one thing: adventure time. And not just any walk-around-the-block adventure… this was a full-on family getaway with my little sister Mila (she thinks she’s the boss) to a magical place called Gilchrist Springs, Florida.

We stayed at the coziest, dreamiest little spot called Postcard Cabins. It was the perfect remote getaway from the city. No loud neighbors, no traffic, no CATS.Just peace, pine trees, and our pack. Oh, and it’s dog-friendly, of course. Mila and I were welcome inside, outside, upside down — basically, they rolled out the red carpet for us. 10/10, would stay again.

We all snuggled up in the cabin at night and ran wild (okay, on-leash wild) during the day. But the real highlight? Rainbow Springs. We went CLEAR KAYAKING?! Mila and I rode like royalty while Mom and Dad paddled us through the bluest water I’ve ever seen. Fish swam underneath us, birds flew above us, and Mila tried (and failed) to whisper bark at a turtle.

After kayaking, we cooled off with a swim in the springs — even I dipped my paws in (I’m more of a land doggo). The water was crystal clear and felt like a thousand belly rubs.

We ended each night by the fire pit under a sky full of stars, tails wagging, bellies full, and hearts happy. If you’re looking for a remote, peaceful, dog-friendly slice of Florida paradise — Postcard Cabins in Gilchrist Springs is it.

Can’t wait for our next trip. Hopefully at another Postcard Cabins location! 🐾💙

xoxo – Mochi

A Dog-Friendly Cabin Getaway with Our East Coast Tails

dog-friendly cabin getaway in Connecticut

An Unplugged Adventure with Koda: Dog-Friendly Getaway to Postcard Cabins Machimoodus

Looking for the perfect dog-friendly cabin getaway on the East Coast? Meet Nicole and her pup Koda, the adorable duo behind @our.eastcoast.tails, who recently took a rejuvenating trip to Postcard Cabins Machimoodus in Moodus, Connecticut. Known for its serene forest setting and thoughtfully designed, pet-friendly cabins, Machimoodus offered the ideal place for this adventurous pair to disconnect from devices, reconnect with nature, and enjoy some much-needed downtime. We caught up with Nicole to hear all about her favorite moments from the trip, tips for traveling with a pup, and what made this cozy cabin retreat so memorable

What Postcard Cabins location did you visit, and who joined you on your getaway?

My partner, Austin, our dog Koda, and I visited Machimoodus in Moodus, CT.

dog-friendly cabin getaway on the east coast

What do you like best about your stay at Postcard Cabins?

Austin, Koda, and I absolutely loved how convenient the set-up is! It’s clear how thought-out the cabins are and there are so many amenities provided, especially in such a small space. I LOVED the s’mores kits! Everyone was well-spaced out so that you could have privacy, but didn’t necessarily feel like you were totally alone.

What were your favorite activities to do while you were there?

We really just wanted to go offline and enjoy each other’s company for awhile! We locked our phones away, started a campfire, made s’mores and took Koda for a nice morning walk!

What are your favorite things about being in nature?

It’s so peaceful and stress-free! We are both really busy people so it’s hard for us to truly unplug. Postcard Cabins is the perfect opportunity to do so!! You can pack light and enjoy nature without having to worry about setting up your own tent and bringing all of the gear.

Do you have any tips for traveling with pups?

When it comes to traveling with Koda, I like to overpack. You truly never know what you’re going to need so I just feel more comfortable bringing extras. We also always travel with a pet first aid kit, paw wipes, extra food, spare food and water bowls, and extra gear, such as an extra collar and leash set.

And lastly, what made this getaway special?

It truly is what you make of it! Try your best to unplug; read a book, have a glass of wine, tell stories over the campfire, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings!

Whether you’re roasting s’mores under the stars, taking a quiet morning walk through the woods, or simply enjoying the calm that comes with being off-grid, Postcard Cabins offers a peaceful escape—for both humans and their four-legged companions. As Nicole and Koda remind us, all you need for a memorable getaway is nature, a little preparation, and the willingness to slow down. If you’re dreaming of your next dog-friendly cabin trip in New England, look no further than Postcard Cabins Machimoodus, located in Moodus, CT, and a quick drive from both New York City and Boston—your cozy, cabin-in-the-woods adventure awaits. Best Places to Take Your Dog Near Getaway Eastern Catskill

We know our furry friends love escaping the city just as much as we do. There’s nothing better than trading in sidewalks and small dog parks for trotting along hiking trails and collecting sticks.

Traveling Upstate is a journey for pet owner and pet alike, and that’s why we’ve compiled some essential reading for getting away with your pup. After all, what’s better than setting that “out of office” on, collecting your canine buddy, and venturing out into the quiet, peaceful Outpost?

We partnered with our friends at Chewy to offer you some fantastic tips for traveling with your dog.

Go on Walks in the Woods

Your dog will love it, and you will, too. Did you know that there’s scientifically proven benefits to walking over rustling leaves? Give yourself that sense of calm, and get some great exercise for your dog in the process. Don’t forget to bring snacks for you and dog treats for them.

North South Lake
~ 25 minutes from Outpost

Dogs are allowed on-leash throughout this beautiful lakeside area. Lounge near the water or follow Mary Glen’s Trail to see Artist’s Rock, Sunset Rock, Newman’s Ledge, and North Point. We recommend choosing a dog leash that fits your dog’s personality and your needs. A hands-free dog leash, for example, can help simplify hiking with your four-legged friend.

Overlook Mountain Trail
~ 40 minutes from Outpost

This moderate hike has some challenging points, but the view at the top is more than worth it. On-leash dogs are welcome throughout the whole trail. Don’t forget to bing along dog poop bags to do your part in maintaining the beautiful route.

Local Attractions

Every Getaway Outpost is dog-friendly, and there’s no real need to venture out. The cabins have everything you need and nothing you don’t. If you do find yourself hankering to get some of the local flavor of our Getaway Catskills Outpost, there are several places you can stop and enjoy along with your pup.

Mountain Top Arboretum
~ 30 minutes from Outpost

While you can’t let your pup run free through the whole arboretum, there are designated places for dogs to play. Bring along some dog treats or your pup’s favorite dog toy enjoy some greenery with your leashed pup on Maude Adams Road and the East Meadow. The Spruce Glen trails are open to all pups, leashed or not. Bringing along a dog GPS tracker can also help keep your dog safe and monitor their activity.

Olana State Historic Site
~ 30 minutes from Outpost

While dogs are not allowed inside the home and studio on the property, they are allowed on the grounds on-leash. Take your pup on a walk through this 25 acre hilltop estate and get a beautiful view of the Hudson River Valley below.

Dining

The New York Restaurant
~ 20 minutes from Outpost

This cool local spot specializes in authentic Polish cuisine. Bring along a dog travel bowl and dog water bowl to have your pup enjoy mealtime with you. Their two outdoor tables are pet-friendly, so it’s the perfect spot to sit with your pup and sample some pierogis.

Catskill Mountain Country Store
~ 40 minutes from Outpost

If you’re looking for a bite to eat, then stop by this local restaurant and store with pup-friendly outdoor seating. Serving up both breakfast and lunch, we recommend their pancakes or their old-fashioned ice cream counter.

If your dog isn’t the exploring type, then don’t worry. There’s something magical about disconnecting from technology and finding the time for unstructured play with your dog, taking in those playful moments and adorable snuggles. And of course, there’s plenty of space for sleepy pups to take a nap in our cabins, too.
