Gabi & Shanna Meit-Sciara, wives and the creators behind @27travels, recently visited Postcard Cabins Eastern Catskills for a cozy and romantic winter escape to nature. Here’s what they have to say about their romantic weekend getaway.

As our nine-year anniversary approached, we decided it was time for a getaway—an opportunity to truly disconnect and be present with each other. Since our work often requires us to travel, we wanted this trip to be exclusively for the two of us, free from distractions. We knew the perfect spot to do that would be the Eastern Catskills Postcard Cabin, conveniently located just 2.5 hours from New York City. The moment we arrived, we knew this trip was going to be magical.
The week prior had brought a lovely blanket of snow, making this the perfect winter retreat. As we stepped into the cabin, a deep sense of calm washed over us. Nestled in the mountains, the cabin offered a serene escape from our bustling city lives. Being two city girls at heart, we often forget the peace nature can bring. Each time we venture into the great outdoors, we’re reminded why we should do it more often, and this trip was no different.

Our cabin was cozy and intimate, just the perfect size for the two of us. The large window framed a breathtaking view of the snow-covered mountains. When we arrived, we noticed a cell phone lock box sitting on the table. After snapping some photos to capture the moment, we happily placed our phones inside, letting us focus solely on each other and the beauty around us.
We spent our snowy weekend making a fire, roasting vegan marshmallows, playing card games, going on walks, and reading together. Most importantly, we took the time to talk—deep, meaningful conversations that often get lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This was a rare opportunity for us to reconnect without the noise of our busy routines. Our dating and wedding anniversary are both in the winter, so it’s the perfect time for us to reconnect and spend quality time together.

Waking up in the morning next to the big, glass window that looks to the mountains was inspiring. It reminded us why it’s so important to take time for ourselves and make sure we’re disconnecting from the busyness of our lives and reconnecting in nature. Our job is in travel, but we also work together and it requires both of us being on our phone a lot. Which means we’re always seeing news or notifications that feel like they need to be urgently answered. And it’s rare that we get time away from all of that and just have time together. Working with your partner is a blessing and a curse, but knowing that we can escape to Postcard Cabins when we need time away is so freeing.
This was our first time staying at Postcard Cabins, but we know it won’t be our last. It was an absolutely magical trip in the winter, but we were fantasizing what it would be like to come here in the other seasons too, and make new memories that will last a lifetime. We’re so glad we took this time away to disconnect from the chaos of life and reconnect with each other. It was the perfect way to kick off our anniversary month and remember that the most important thing in our lives is each other.
