We invited Shilletha Curtis, aka @i_am_dragonsky, to Getaway Western Catskills, outside NYC, to disconnect and explore the vast nature of the Hudson Valley. Here’s what she found on her escape to nature.

Deep in the mountains, nestled in the woods lies a serene escape known as Getaway. Contrary to belief Getaway is a quaint cabin loaded with everything to meet your needs. We’re talking a refrigerator, two burner stove, flushing toilet, shower, running water and all the utensils to cook them. Bedsheets, pillows and air conditioner apply. Getaway caters to the needs of those truly looking to getaway without having to sacrifice time on amenities, food and firewood (for an extra cost). I enjoyed having a morning and evening fire each day as a fire pit and grill were provided as well.

With only a two-hour drive from Phillipsburg, New Jersey, it was worth it. What truly sets Getaway apart is how close everything is-hikes, towns, fishing lakes and restaurants. Two local places that I visited were the Roscoe New York Brewery and Buck Brook Alpacas both located within twenty minutes from the Getaway Cabin in Roscoe. The brewery was the best rated in the state a couple of years ago and its drafts were playful and plentiful. For adults looking for a way to kick back and relax, this is it. The bartender was exceptionally kind and offered to take as many pictures as I wanted. Outside is a seating area, surrounded by mountains with a stage for live music that plays weekly in the summer. Across the street lies the world famous “Roscoe Diner” sure to fill your belly before or after a beverage.

After a refreshing drink, I drove down the road to my favorite attraction: The Buck Brook Alpaca farm. There is something so endearing and so exciting about seeing Alpacas. Not only are they adorable, they are generally well tempered animals just looking for a hand to eat out of. At the farm there were over one hundred Alpacas of many colors ranging from calves to adults. For just ten dollars, this farm is a great place for families and people of all ages and backgrounds. For ten dollars more you can even walk an Alpaca. I sadly did not and am regretting my decision daily. Alpacas may dominate the farm but there are also ducks, goats, sheep, llamas and Peacocks!
