It’s finally cozy cabin season in Minnesota and I can’t imagine a more perfect cozy stay than at Postcard Cabins in Willow River, Minnesota. At just 90 minutes from the Twin Cities, the tiny cabins are an easy weekend getaway to retreat into nature. Expect to disconnect – there is no wifi in the cabins – which is the whole point of this beautiful tiny cabin getaway. While you could easily spend all weekend relaxing in the cabin, there are plenty of activities to do in the area too if you want to be active. Below are my five favorite activities to do at and around Postcard Cabins:
- Read a book or bring a journal to capture your thoughts while relaxing in the comfortable bed overlooking nature – the stunning giant windows are truly captivating and I love simply unwind in bed and enjoy the view. Each cabin overlooks beautiful trees so you feel totally immersed in nature. Even better to bring a new book to enjoy. There is even a reading light right above the bed if you continue to read into the dark.
- Hike at Banning State Park – just 15 minutes away from the Postcard Cabins is the beautiful state park. At just $7 per day for a day pass, it’s well worth a visit to hike along the sandstone rocks and enjoy views of the river and waterfalls. If you’re willing to drive a little further, Jay Cooke is another beautiful state park just 38 minutes away. After a fun day of hiking, relax any sore muscles with a warm shower back in the cabin.
- Enjoy breakfast in town at Figueroa’s Cafe in town – this is definitely a locally loved spot and for good reason! The food is cooked fresh and is delicious. We especially loved the omelet with sourdough toast to fuel us up for the day. The building itself has a really interesting history too that goes back to the 1890’s. If you want a break from cooking, Figueroa’s is a great choice and is only a 6 minute drive away.
- Walk the Nature Path on site or stroll by the lake – you don’t even have to leave the property to go hiking. There are beautiful nature paths and even a lake you can stroll along and enjoy a meal at.
- Eat outside at the picnic table, overlooking the firepit – each cabin has its own picnic table and firepit so it’s perfect for dining outdoors! While you can definitely stock up on your own food before arriving as the cabins have their own mini-fridges and cooking facilities, they also have food kits you can pre-order. The cabins are also stocked with box water, s’mores kits, tea and coffee so you can pay for what you want to use.
