In late July, my fiancé Ben and I packed our bags and headed to a tiny cabin in Wimberley, Texas for two days of relaxing, camping (or moreso glamping) and reconnecting with one another.
Even though we’ve been together day-in and day-out since March, we were still craving a break from our daily routine, a change in scenery and a little adventure together.
I stumbled across Getaway when I was poking around looking for glamping spots near Austin. I was drawn to their site from an ad that featured a guy and a girl sitting in this cute little cabin, staring out into the wilderness from this large gorgeous glass window. I saw it and instantly thought, “I have to be next to that window!”
I looked at their site and then quickly showed Ben to get his input. He loves camping and has always wanted to live in a tiny home, so when I showed him the set-up, he was sold. We decided to go for it, booked two nights and packed our bags.
The cabin was adorable and greeted us with private parking out front, an outdoor picnic table and a personal campfire space. When I opened the door to the cabin, my eyes instantly zoned in on that amazing bed from the photos and I couldn’t wait to cuddle up next to that large glass window.
There was also a little table for two, kitchen with stove top, and a bathroom/shower. We also stumbled upon a drawer of provisions for sale (pasta, sauce, oatmeal, candy) and a bin of firewood outside. It had everything we needed, and we were so excited to get unpacked!
As we were putting our things away, we came across a wooden box on the kitchen table etched with “Cellphone Lockbox” and thought it was such a great idea. We decided to give it a try and dropped our phones inside.
To kick off our tech free night, we decided to take a long walk around the property where we weaved in and out of the woods and through the towering trees. When we got back to the cabin, we changed into pjs, made two steaming cups of coffee, grabbed our books and cozied up by the large glass window.
As the sun started to set and the temperatures cooled, we brought our blankets and books outside. Ben started up the campfire so that we could cook dinner and we ending the evening cuddled up in a large wooden chair as the fire crackled around us.
It didn’t take long for us to realize that even though we were together 24/7 at home, we weren’t always connecting there. We were both stressed from work, missed our friends and family and were just constantly worried about the unknowns that surrounded us during this pandemic.
Having the opportunity to take a little trip, mix up our routine, and disconnect from the world was very much needed. It gave us a taste of normalcy and allowed us the time and space to give each other uninterrupted attention. We can’t wait to go back this fall and experience it again.
